2007 Administrator of the Year
Each year IAWP awards an administrator who has provided outstanding public service in the support of workforce development.
The individual selected as the Administrator of the Year for 2007 has served her state government for 31 years, most of which was within the Virginia Employment Commission. Each year she sponsors the Commissioner's Outstanding Achievement Awards to honor VEC employees for extraordinary efforts and exceptional performance as they greatly contribute to the goals and objectives of VEC in the categories of:
- Career Achievement
- Customer Service
- Innovation & Creativity.
- Leadership and
- Team Spirit
She is an active member of the National Association of State Workforce Agencies, and in 2007 she served as chair of the NASWA UI Committee. At VEC in 2007 she worked aggressively to update and upgrade the aging UI Tax and Benefits system. In November 2007 through her leadership, VEC was awarded a grant to fund enhanced internet claims processing. Additionally in 2007 this VEC Commissioner prioritized her goal to partner with the Local Workforce Investment Area to design and implement a Virtual OneStop in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This valuable tool continues to help anyone interested in work, training, or career exploration. In following with her assistance to community, the Administrator of the Year for 2007 served on a panel of judges in selecting the 2007 Helios Apollo Award winners for the Helios HR Corporation of Reston, Virginia. In October 2007 in conjunction with the strong Employer Advisory Committee networked throughout Virginia, VEC hosted the annual Employer Conference in Norfolk.
All of these accomplishments only begin to tell the story of the Administrator of the Year for 2007. During her years with the agency she has been a loyal supporter of IAPES and now IAWP. Whether attending professional development training for IAWP members in the mountains of Virginia or speaking with savvy and surety at the Capitol in Richmond, this administrator brings a human quality to the table as she demonstrates professional excellence. The support given to IAWP by the VEC Commissioner at this annual conference has allowed the conference planning committee to breathe easier and rest assured all attendees are receiving a quality event.
