International President-Elect Lorraine Faulds

Although currently a resident of South Carolina, Lorraine was born and raised in Northern New York, 30 minutes from the Canadian border. She attended the State University of New York at Morrisville where she earned an Associate's Degree in Journalism in 1983. She was the first one in her family to attend college. After graduation, she married her husband Patrick in an outdoor wedding with the Catskill Mountains as a backdrop.
With few journalism opportunities in the area at that time, Lorraine turned to the U.S. Army for employment. She spent three years as a Supply Specialist, mostly working with small firearms, and was an acting sergeant when she ended her service. She earned the Army Commendation Award.
Her daughter Sarah was born a few months after that and Lorraine began a series of "interesting" jobs including professional actress, janitor, seamstress, assistant to an architect, and a clerk with Department of Social Service Child Support Enforcement Unit. She started work at the South Carolina Employment Security Commission in 1989 (the agency is now called the SC Department of Employment and Workforce), with the Labor Market Information (LMI) Department. She has been there ever since.
Her career in LMI included a stint as the developer and coordinator of the National LMI Institute, a training organization that provided technical training for labor market analysts from all over the country. This position provided Lorraine with experience in budgeting, supervision, planning, marketing, curriculum development and customer service. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management in 1994.
She currently works in LMI's Promotion and Publications Unit, providing training and materials related to LMI and specifically works with the public education system by teaching students, administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, and parents how to make wise career decisions.
Lorraine is a 22-year member of IAWP and has been very active in her chapter. She has been SC Chapter president, president-elect, vice president, and has been the chapter communications chair since 1995. On the International level, Lorraine has served as District V Director, Newsletter/Media Coordinator, Website Coordinator, Services to Specialized Customers Committee Chair, Chapter Development Chair, two terms as the Educational Development Chair, and Vice President.
Lorraine is a Workforce Professional Development Program (WPDP) Master and earned her Certified Workforce Specialist (CWS) designation in 2008.
Lorraine has been married to Patrick Faulds for 27 years. They have a daughter, Sarah, who is a sixth grade teacher and two other hairy children (dogs)!
