2007 Public Policy Award
The IAWP Public Policy Award recognizes an individual who performed outstanding public service in the support of workforce development programs and/or personnel.
The 2007 Public Policy Award winner recognized the problems working military spouses encounter when their families are given a military transfer. With understanding of this dilemma this South Carolina State Legislator sponsored legislation in January 2007 to help these families of military veterans who are in the state of transition. In June 2007 the South Carolina Legislature passed the legislation which provides unemployment insurance benefits for those working spouses of military personnel who lose their job due to a spouse's transfer. Additionally, the legislation relieves employers of any liability for the claim. As a decorated veterans of the Gulf War, this South Carolina State Senator worked diligently to see this important legislation to fruition.
