International President David Slimp

David is a 42 year member of the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is a Programs Manager assigned to the Workforce Services Division of the agency. He works with Alien Labor Certification, assigning housing inspections for the H2A program, Monitor Advocate for the Oklahoma agency, Federal Bonding Representative, works with the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program, making presentations to business groups and also works with ex-felons needing employment assistance.

He is a charter member of the Oklahoma Governor's Interagency Council on Homelessness since March 2004, having been earlier designated as the agency liaison for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. He had previously participated in policy academies for the Chronic Homelessness, Denver, Colorado, October 2003 and a second policy academy for Homeless Families and Children, Miami, Florida, January 2004. David was also a member of the Task Force on the Effect of Alzheimer's Disease in Oklahoma, signed into law May 2008, and he is again serving as the designee representing the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. David has served as Commander of the American Legion State Capitol Post 1000; President of the Mid-Del Lions Club; President of the Capitol Hill Sertoma Club, Oklahoma City, and member for 15 years; Cub Scout Committee Chair for 17 years for Pack 16, Oklahoma City; and as a soccer coach and referee for 14 years.

David completed his BA in Sociology, with minors in Economics and History, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 1967. Immediately after graduation he volunteered for the military draft and at the end of basic training, Ft. Polk, Louisiana, was assigned to the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station, New Orleans, LA., as a Personnel Psychology Specialist. His primary assignment was administering Armed Force Qualification Testing for military draftees and volunteers for the different branches.

David is a 35 year member of IAPES/IAWP, becoming a member in 1975. He has served in all aspects of the Oklahoma Chapter and has been involved on the international level since the early 1990's as a District Director or Committee Chair. He is a very strong believer in getting involved and staying involved. He believes that IAWP must make a major effort to move forward through additional membership recruitment, make solid choices for International Educational Conference locations, and achieve a "can do" attitude for making the redistricting alignments work.

The presidential theme adopted by President Slimp for the 2011-2012 administrative year, IAWP: Building One Member At-A-Time, summarizes his belief in IAWP and the value of IAWP membership for all workforce professionals.
